Joe Lolley has a chance to kickstart his stuttering season this weekend

The start of Nottingham Forest’s season hasn’t quite gone to plan.

They’ve got just one point from two league games, and that is in no small part down to the fact their star man hasn’t been at the races thus far.

A number of Forest supporters expressed their concerns about the form Joe Lolley has been showing in the opening few weeks of the season, but luckily for the City Ground faithful the winger has the perfect opportunity to put things right this weekend.

Forest return to the City Ground to play host to Birmingham City, and this represents a great chance for the Reds’ talisman to open his scoring account for this season.

Indeed, the 25-year-old has scored more goals against Birmingham than any other opposition throughout his career.

He’s scored four goals in six games against the Blues, and that is no coincidence.

Lolley somehow finds something extra whenever he plays against the Second City outfit, and that may have something to do with his personal allegiances.

He’s a lifelong Aston Villa fan, and he played at Birmingham’s academy until the age of 16. He has all the incentive any player could ask for to get one over the Blues, and time and time again he has put in his best performances against the St Andrew’s outfit.

A goal or two this weekend would not only improve his already impressive record against Pep Clotet’s side, but it would also give him the confidence needed to go on and match the 11 goals and 11 assists he provided last term.
