Forest should not be satisfied despite decent point against Leeds

Nottingham Forest picked up their first point of the season over the weekend.

On paper, a 1-1 draw with Leeds United seems like a fantastic result. The Whites are one of the favourites for promotion, and in their first home game of the campaign, they looked to be up for it.

For large periods of the match, it looked as if Forest would be leaving Yorkshire with no points, but a late Lewis Grabban goal secured a draw for Sabri Lamouchi’s men.

Any team in the division would be happy with a point at Elland Road, and Forest will undoubtedly be satisfied by the result – but the performance they put in is a whole other story.

They were far from impressive on Saturday, and Lamouchi can’t let the scoreline paper over the cracks.

Firstly, it has to be pointed out how bad the East Midlands side were in possession. They often looked to be rushing their passes and making the wrong decisions, and a pass success rate of just 61 per centshows just how wasteful they were on the ball.

This means that almost 40% of their passes didn’t find the mark, and when you’re so willingly giving away possession, it’s practically impossible to win.

It’s not as if they could afford to be that poor, as they didn’t see very much of the ball at Elland Road as they had just 32% of the possession.

Luckily, Leeds were incredibly wasteful in front of goal. Of their 15 shots, only one went in, but Forest won’t be that lucky every week.

They didn’t create much going forward, and if it weren’t for an incredibly scrappy goal, they would have come away with nothing.

Although they will welcome the point they got on Saturday, it’s hard to be encouraged by the performance they put in, and Lamouchi needs to work on putting these things right.
